Job DescriptionPosition SummaryResearch & Materials (R&M) is responsible for MassDOT complying with all applicable federal guidelines and regulations relating to construction material quality. The R&M Department of MassDOT is responsible for the testing of products, and the verification, approval and acceptance of materials, to assure that materials incorporated into MassDOT construction projects are in conformance with the plans and specifications. The Central Laboratory participates in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Accreditation Program. The laboratory meets strict organization, personnel, equipment, and testing proficiency requirements. R&M is responsible for all materials incorporated into highway projects and certification of materials for Federal-Aid projects. MassDOT is required under the Code of Federal Regulations (23 CFR Part 637) to ensure that all construction materials used on federally-aided transportation projects meet or exceed project specifications.
